New Evidence for Ritual at an Etruscan Sanctuary
Category Archaeology Lectures
Year: 2005
The Etruscan site of Poggio Colla, about twenty miles north-east of Florence, has been excavated since 1995 as a joint project of SMU, Franklin and Marshall, and the University of Pennsylvania. Recent work has provided dramatic evidence for ritual at a hilltop sanctuary that spans most of Etruscan history, from the seventh to the second century BC. This evidence consists of a series of votive deposits that include bronzes, jewelry, and even architectural elements reused from an early temple.
